Session 5: A Personal Vendetta

The 15th of Highsun
Day 3
After a long day of bitter conflict and adventuring, the group took a rest at a local inn for the night. The next day, Kemlar asked every to prepare for their attack on the mansion's inhabitants. He himself, went on the search for a new cloak, but was struggling to find one. When he finally asked one of the shop owners, they responded by telling him that Cloakopolis had recently been burned down, cloaks and all. So, long story short, the cloak economy had collapsed, their prices had skyrocketed and there were only a very small few in Rugtia left.
It was then that the head rug maker of Rugtia entered the shop.
The head rug maker inquired of Kemlar'a recent adventures and the statistics of his guild. Surprisingly, he had heard of He Legion of Dungeon Misfits, name strange as it was, they were already renowned for rescuing his cousin's daughter from Kobolds. He was disappointed to hear that Kemlar was another individual looking to purchase a cloak, and said how much of a tragedy this whole ordeal was.
The head rug maker gave Kemlar his deepest regards and offered him one of his own cloaks. He, unfortunately could not give it away, as much as he wanted to, with the economy in a state such as this. He offered it for 1,000 gold, but along with it, he would add his personal blessing, as the head rug maker. Kemlar, with a small bit of monetary aid from Yonan, purchased the cloak from the head rug maker. As a small reward to Yonan, Kemlar decided to take him, Celestia, and Bryn on a small excursion for some more adventuring experience.
It didn't take them long to find a source of evil coming form a nearby cave, though they couldn't tell what exactly the evil was coming from. As they entered, they could all make out a large stick, glowing slightly, reaching up to the ceiling from the center of the room. Kemlar immediately told each of them to not touch the stick thing under any circumstances. Yonan moved near the wall along the edge to where he saw a small chest on the side of the large cave room. He slipped his knife out of his pocket and gave the lip of the chest a good once over. Satisfied with the lack of traps on it, he slowly slipped his knife into the unlocked chest and pried it open.
Too soon for even Yonan to realize, a burst of black colored fire shit out from the inside of the chest. Luckily for him, he was able to sidestep out of the path of the fire, avoiding any damage that it would have dealt him. Once inside the chest, he found bags of money equivalent to about five-hundred or so gold and a potion labeled, Cure Minor Wounds. He pocketed everything, when Kemlar called out that he wanted the chest itself. On his way over to retrieving the chest, Kemlar made an attempt to derive wether or no this "stick" had any religious purpose.
Channeling his superior knowledge of religion, he could easily tell that this was in fact a religious object, a connecting anchor, if you will. Kemlar was struck abruptly with the knowledge that this item was in fact a link to Tiamat, for about the past hour to be exact. Tiamat, the true enemy of his own god, Bahamut. This very cave was his mission, a mission to rid the world of Tiamat, for Bahamut himself. Kemlar would be a piece of a battle that had been raging on for a millennia.
As Celestia approached the stick ever so slightly, Kemlar called her back, explaining to her what he had figured out, and to not touch it under any circumstances. At that very moment, a deer appeared near the stick, closer to the far wall. Celestia's instinctive, nature side kicked in without her able to control it, and she began to be the likeness of a deer. Unable to resist the urge, she began to rub her antlers on the stick. Luckily, nothing actually did happened as Celestia continued to buck rub the stick.
Kemlar prayed for Bahamut to aid him in intervening against Celestia's urge to imitate the deer. With the help from her husband and his god, Celestia easily shook off her strange mental state of acting like said deer. Now able to think freely of more sentient things, she approached the deer and began to talk with him. Unfortunately for Celestia, this particular deer had grown up in a very rough part of the woods, and in turn, had become equally rough. He spoke back to her with a few unnecessarily profanities weaved into his sentences. This was one of those deer, the ones who walked around with their guts sucked in and their feet always cleaner than their faces. What this actually meant, Celestia hardly knew, however, she attempted to embrace it like she would any such animal. The deer did not in fact resist the embrace as much as he just complained to himself about it.
Kemlar moved back towards the center of the room, lighting a torch on the way. Celestia asked Kemlar if they could keep the stick, especially now that they new that it summoned deer. Kemlar refused to allow Celstia possession of such an object now that he knew that it had direct connection to Tiamat. Celestia still insisted on having the magical stick, which then briefly lead into a conversation about a magical stick belinging to Kemlar, which Yonan desperately attempted to not be a part of. Finally, Kemlar communed with Thor and Bahamut to rid this stick of its presence of Tiamat. Unfortunately, they were so exhilarated to help Kemlar with this, that they accidentally vaporized it completely.
Celestia of course, was quite devastated when she looked back to the stick to find it to not even be there anymore. Distraught, Celestia turned to the deer for comfort as Kemlar and Yonan caught movement at the edge of the lighting. Three figures became distinguishable on the outskirts of the light. Kemlar motioned the figures to Yonan, preparing him for a fight. The figures stepped further into the dim light, their monstrous forms frightened Celestia, but made her not want to harm them for who they were. However, they reassured Kemlar of his own fears.
These Dragonborn, as he recognized them, were corrupted, bent to the wills of the name Tiamat. It was Kemlar's moral obligation to obliterate the residents of this cave. He called out to them in Draconic, stating that they were born to the inferior deity. He told them it was shameful that it had to be so. They attempted to make a mockery of Bahamut, without much reaction form Kemlar, other than the promise that Tiamat would fall before him before he was through. This drove them into an impeccable rage. However, before they could even make their move, Yonan struck the one closest to him with one of his arrows, embedding it into the Dragonborn's skull. Crumpling to the cave floor, Kemlar dug in, ready to bare against the two coming for him. Unfortunately for them, being newborns, their breaths were not yet very effective and sprayed out about five feet before falling to the ground. Moving up to attempt to do some damage, the first was unable to lay a claw on Kemlar after receiving a blow from Kemlar's sword. The second Dragonborn also received an impressive injury form Kemlar before its own feeble attempt to strike at Kemlar.
Kemlar finished off the first one that had attacked him, silently swearing to Tiamat as he cut it down. Yonan finished off the third one just before Kemlar was winding up for another counter strike. After the brief fight was done with, Kemlar took the time to inspect the corpses. The one that Yonan had just slew was of a blue coloration, while the one that Kemlar had was green scaled. These newborn Dragonborn were unfortunate to have been born, most likely right here, to such an evil power. The one that Kemlar had defeated by himself was wrecked at the least, while the one that Yonan had finished was in much better condition. As his trophy in the hunt, Kemlar took the curled horns of the green one that he had beat alone, while, with permission from Yonan, he skinned the leathery hide of the blue one for himself. Moving over to the third and final one, Kemlar swore under his breath at the sight of the golden scales over its body. The cruelty of Tiamat would not stop until she herself was stopped. He closed the eyes of the Dragonborn as he thought of his officiated vow, the fall of Tiamat by his blade.
In the center of the room, however, Celestia was ever more frustrated by the acts of her husband as she turned to see him. Unfortunately, Kemlar was wrapped up in his own matters. Looking around the cave, Yonan and Kemlar found a large wooden door. Kemlar could sense an immense amount of evil saturating the air from inside this next room. Easing the door open they peered inside.
On the far side of the room stood a pedestal, a Dragonborn looking over it. About ten more Dragonborn linedf the sides of the room, all preoccupied by the light absorbing pedestal. The rest of the Dragonborn were unaware as Yonan snuck around to the right line along the wall, assassinating the closest one to the group. Before Kemlar could move in for his own strike, Celestia's deer trotted into the room and began to run his antlers along the rim of the pedestal. Celestia quickly followed after her new animal friend with her wolf right behind her. As she neared the darkened pedestal, the light from her halo and self began to swirl off in a never ending stream that was twirled around the pedestal until it was ultimately absorbed. And, although the Dragonborn were suprised at her presence, they did nothing, far too focused on the pedestal.
Pleasantly surprised with the distraction provided by both his wife and the pedestal itself, Kemlar easily snuck in behind the closest Dragonborn to the left of the doorway and struck it down. With Kemlar's battle cry, the Dragonborn were now aware of the presence of the group, but before they could react, Yonan ran forward and threw the pedestal into the Dragonborn standing behind it. The weight of the pedestal severed the Dragonborn in half before it shattered. A smooth black stone that had been on top of the pedestal fell with it toward the cave floor. But just before the stone itself was able to shatter, Yonan tipped it off of his hand, preventing it from breaking as it met the floor of the cave.
The attention fo every Dragonborn was no on Yonan, but before they could charge him and turn him inside out, Kemlar began to yell form his position at the multitude of Dragonborn. Insulting Tiamat and spewing profanities in Draconic, he easily got most of their attention on him. Even so, none laid a claw on Kemlar before he was able to slay them as each approached. Yonan pocketed the stone that had once been on the pedestal before taking down another Dragonborn with his longbow.
One, on the far side of the room, attempted to breath a column of fire at Celestia, her wolf, and her deer. Luckily, the Dragonborn, and its partners in the act, like the previous ones, failed at their breaths and were quickly cut down by Kemlar, while Yonan cleaned up the other side of the room. Kemlar looted a green and black hide off of two more Dragonborn as he prayed over the bodies of each metallic Dragonborn that had been unfortunate enough to be in this fray. The cave was found to have no other room or exits, and without anything else to explore in the cave, the group called it a day.
With this chapter closed and Kemlar reassured of his life goals, Celestia, Yonan, Bryn, and himself, all made their way back to Rugtia. Preparation to enter the mansion was almost complete, although many individuals in the group were not actually fully prepared. A flyer for a Dragon Religion Festival in Tiatown caught their interest, and it was decide that those who were prepared for the mansion would venture there the next morning, while the others would continue to prepare.
